Intelius Compliance Guide for Law Enforcement

This guide is designed to assist law enforcement in understanding Intelius’s policies and practices in regard to retention and disclosure of electronic information, and to provide answers to frequently asked questions related to subpoenas and other legal processes. The policies and procedures described in this guide are subject to change without notice.

In crafting a subpoena, court order or search warrant, please be as specific as possible. Narrowly tailored requests yield quicker processing times and creates fewer opportunities for misinterpretation.

Types of Information We Collect

Intelius retains different types of information in accordance with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. This information may include the following:

  • Customer Registration Information
    • Customer information provided by the user at the time of registration, including name and email address
    • Billing address and/or zip code
    • IP address related to logins and sessions
  • Transaction Records
    • Payment method
    • Purchase records including order date, order number product purchased, amount paid
    • Non-content information related to specific correspondence
    • Cancellation date
  • User Content
    • Search results, date report viewed, view count

Requests for Customer Account Information

Non-public information about Intelius customers will not be released to law enforcement except in response to appropriate legal process such as a subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process. Requests to produce contents of user communications and/or content require a valid search warrant based on probable cause. Search warrants should be issued under the procedures described in the U.S. Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure or equivalent state criminal procedure law.

Please address all subpoenas, search warrants and other legal process to the Custodian of Record at the address listed below. Your request should identify the specific materials you seek. The more precise your request is, the quicker we will be able to process it.
